The hour the room changes
At half past eight the room still belongs to families and people straight from work. By ten it is something else: tables of six, eight and ten, phones passing photos around, rissóis ordered for the middle of the table and the question every waiter hears, what time does the kitchen close. The answer is simple: on Fridays and Saturdays we serve until midnight. Enough time to eat properly and still be early for the night.
Why the night starts here
Geography explains most of it. Capa na Baixa sits next to Teatro Rivoli, five minutes on foot from Rua de Cândido dos Reis and Galerias de Paris, a short walk from Rua de Passos Manuel and Avenida dos Aliados. Anyone meeting friends downtown before going out ends up here: easy to find, room for big groups, and a bill that still leaves budget for the rest of the night.
What people order before going out
The ritual repeats from table to table. Rissóis to share, the francesinha with traditional or extra-spicy sauce for those who want a solid base for the night, grilled meats for those who prefer less bread, and the vegetarian francesinha for those who do not eat meat. On the drinks side, cold draught beer leads, followed by jugs of white or red sangria for the table and a gin and tonic for those who want to start the night at dinner.
Big groups without stress
Birthdays, stag and hen dinners, course and Erasmus dinners: there is at least one every Friday. For groups of eight or more it is worth booking and, to make the bill simple, choosing one of the group menus from €25 to €40 with drinks and coffee included. The indoor garden and the terrace are the most requested spaces; say which you prefer when booking and the team will confirm availability.
After Capa
From here, Porto's nightlife is within reach. Walking down to Galerias de Paris takes five minutes; Rua de Passos Manuel and Maus Hábitos are around the corner; and if you prefer the river, Ribeira is fifteen minutes on foot down Rua das Flores. Ask for the bill in good time, count the group and go. The room will be here next weekend.
